Srinagar, Mar 26 (KNO): Kashmir upper reaches received fresh snowfall, while plains received intermittent rains on Wednesday. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), several upper reaches including Zojila Pass, Sinthan Top, Sadhna Top, Gurez and other places received fresh snowfall. The light drizzle was witnessed in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Pertinently, the weatherman had issued a yellow alert for two days in Jammu and Kashmir, predicting light to moderate rains and snowfall in the Union Territory. As per the forecast, a spell of light to moderate rain and snow (higher reaches) at many places is expected (mainly over north & central Kashmir) till tomorrow. From March 28 to April 03, the weather is expected to remain dry during the period. The MeT in its advisory has asked the travelers, tourists and transporters to plan accordingly and follow administration and traffic advisory while the farmers were advised to suspend farm operations during 26th & 27th March. “Possibility of thunder with gusty winds at few places during 26-27th March,” the advisory reads. Meanwhile, the ongoing wet spell would likely reduce the deficit rainfall of 40 per cent in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 26 days. Against the normal precipitation of 134.2 mm, Jammu and Kashmir has received a rainfall of 80.9 mm during the period. Nine stations including Anantnag, Budgam, Baramulla, Doda, Kishtwar, Kulgam, Poonch, Rajouri and Ramban have recorded deficit rainfall ranging between 20-59 per cent while Udhampur, Reasi, Samba, Kathua and Jammu have recorded large deficit rainfall ranging between 60-99 per cent in March so far. Srinagar and four other stations including Ganderbal, Bandipora, Kupwara and Shopian have recorded an average rainfall during the period while Pulwama was the only stations where excess rainfall was recorded—(KNO)
